WFCA Elects New Board Chair to Replace Deb DeGraaf

The World Floor Covering Association (WFCA) has a new board chair.

Dean Howell, president of Moda Floors and Interiors, has been elected to the position, succeeding Deb DeGraaf who stepped down.

“This organization and its membership drive change and make things happen for the greater good far beyond what individuals could do on their own,” says Howell. “I am eager to continue the momentum of my predecessors who have led this association to new heights.”

A member of the board since 2013, Howell has spent 18 years in the corporate world working for the Trane Company and Home Depot, where his service took him and his family abroad for seven years in Belgium, China, France and the Netherlands.

After fulfilling corporate career goals, his family settled in Atlanta. Interested in owning a small business, Howell and his wife purchased a flooring and window covering franchise with Nationwide Flooring and Window Coverings.

The business thrived and it soon became one of the top franchises in the United States. However, in 2009, the unstable economy caused the franchisor to go out of business. Howell and his wife decided to put their industry experience into converting the franchise into an independent flooring and interiors company, which resulted in the launch of Moda Floors and Interiors. The word ‘Moda’ was specifically chosen as it is Italian for fashion, personifying the business’ focus on staying a step ahead in design, installation and service.

Howell is joined by Cheryl Acierno, David Garden, Skip Mancini, Typhannie Watson, Jay Kopelson and Madeleine Bayless on the board. The WFCA elects its board of directors for three-year terms.

“Our board leadership reflects our efforts to bring together the best and most collaborative minds in the industry to address current and critical issues affecting the independent floor covering dealer,” says WFCA president and CEO, Scott Humphrey. “Now we are poised to emerge from the pandemic stronger than ever under the able guidance of Dean Howell. Widely respected for his wealth of industry knowledge and experience, Dean’s leadership will be tremendously helpful as we continue to fulfill our mission.”

The WFCA is the floor covering industry’s largest advocacy organization, representing floor covering retailers, contractors and allied service providers throughout North America.
