TISE touts Connection, Innovation at Successful Hybrid Event

This year’s International Surface Event (TISE) may have been a more intimate gathering given the pandemic but those who attended were there with a purpose — to connect with their fellow industry professionals, source products from exhibiting brands and get back to networking.

Held June 16-18, in Las Vegas, the experience was different than previously held events. TISE converted the popular Converge education and Design and Installation Hub (DISH) programming into 30-minute hot topic sessions and demonstrations right on the show floor. Attendees received this education as an inclusion with their exhibits pass. Topics covered included how to increase workforce quality to charge the worth of installers and marketing strategies using podcasts. There were also celebrity design stories and technical sessions on producing quality work and meeting standards.

Also new for 2021, TISE kicked off the National Installer of the Year semi-finals competition. Sixteen finalists in the resilient and carpet categories were selected prior to the event and competed live on the show floor. Eight finalists were chosen at the end of the second day. They will compete against each other at TISE 2022, Feb. 1-3, for the National Installer of the Year title.

In addition to the in-person event, TISE implemented a hybrid virtual experience that offered attendees the same education and demonstration content, connection to Las Vegas attendees, exhibitor product sourcing, as well as live updates and interviews from the show floor.

TISE is comprised of three trade shows — Surfaces, StonExpo/Marmomac and TileExpo — making it the largest North American floor covering, stone and tile industry event. This year it featured more than 190 exhibiting companies, 18 of which were first-time exhibitors offering new products and services to the industry. The show was originally supposed to be held Jan. 25-28, but was pushed back due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
