Tile Industry Raising Money for Ukrainian Children

The tile industry has launched a fundraiser to protect and support children and their families in Ukraine.

The Tile Council of North America (TCNA), National Tile Contractors Association and Ceramic Tile Distributors Association have partnered together on the industry-organized effort, TILE$4UkrainianChildren, that provides humanitarian relief through Save the Children.

TILE$ is an acronym for Tile Industry Leadership to Expedite Support.

“Everyone has seen in the news the horrors of this war in Europe,” says TCNA executive director, Eric Astrachan. “The U.N. is reporting that over 50 per cent of the children in Ukraine have now been displaced, leaving them at serious risk of illness, hunger and abuse. This fundraiser allows us to immediately put into action tile industry humanitarian support for Ukrainian children.”

Each of the three associations has contributed $10,000, with further support also coming in from their members.

The fundraiser will focus on pursuing donations and pledges through the week of North America’s largest ceramic tile and natural stone conference and exhibition, Coverings, April 5-8, for an industry donation goal of $250,000.

Funds raised will help provide children and families with immediate aid, such as food, water, hygiene kits, psychological support and cash assistance.

“I would like to send our thankfulness for what you’re doing for us,” says Lishchynskyi Ioan of the Ukrainian Association of Ceramics. “Project TILE$ sounds really good and we know Save the Children is a big organization with a clear structure of methods to provide target support for Ukrainian children.”

Save the Children has been operating in Ukraine since the start of the escalating crisis in 2014. It is now scaling up operations, distributing critical emergency supplies and establishing safe spaces for children where possible.
