TCNA Honours 2023 Tile Person of the Year

The Tile Council of North America (TCNA) has named the recipient of this year’s Tile Person of the Year award.

Sergio Narváez Garza, CEO of Lamosa’s tile division, was presented the honour at Coverings 2023 last month.

The award is given annually to an individual who has made transformative changes to the North American tile industry.

“From the integration of Mexican tile manufacturers into TCNA to the recent launch of Obra Blanca Expo, Sergio Narváez has been at the forefront of numerous key TCNA initiatives to support and expand the North American tile industry,” says TCNA executive director Eric Astrachan.

Garza’s career spans more than two decades. In 2000, he was recruited by Grupo Lamosa when Lamosa was the third largest tile manufacturer in Mexico with approximately 20 per cent of the Mexican tile market. Since then, Lamosa’s tile division has gained and maintained market leadership in Mexico, grown its industrial capabilities to more than 20 plants in eight countries, increased sales fourteenfold and become the world’s second largest tile manufacturer.

During his time at Lamosa, Garza has demonstrated a strong commitment to the North American tile industry and TCNA. He served as TCNA president from 2010-2012 and 2020-2022. Other achievements include supporting the formation of TCNA Mexico, the creation of tile installer certification schools in Mexico, and trade action to counteract Chinese dumping practices.
