Ontario Flooring Store Abruptly Shutters Business
A Greater Toronto Area flooring store has closed its doors without warning.
Customers of Decorama Flooring in Bowmanville, Ont., only learned about the closure after phoning or visiting the store, or through CTV.
According to a Sept. 20 news report, a number of customers are out thousands of dollars for pre-paid flooring that was to be delivered and installed by the local business.
It’s unclear why Decorama closed its doors, though a sign on the property says it hadn’t paid its rent.
Decorama had been operating in the region for more than 25 years, and was known for its large selection of carpet, hardwood, laminate and vinyl flooring.
While customers are hopeful they will receive a refund, licensed insolvency trustee Hoyes Michalos told CTV that they’re unlikely to get their money back as consumers are generally considered unsecured creditors.
