Home Depot Store Coming to Northern Alberta

The Home Depot has announced plans to open another Canadian location in spring 2026.

The newest store will be in Fort McMurray, Alta., making it the 28th in that province and the northernmost Home Depot retail location in the country.

“Fort McMurray is a dynamic community in the heart of a region experiencing momentum from the forestry, construction, oil and gas sectors,” says Vinod Nalajala, president of the Home Depot Canada. “The store opening is an exciting step forward in support of the Wood Buffalo region while serving the hard-working northern communities with pride.”

The 80,000-square-foot Fort McMurray store will feature an optimized, flexible checkout and customer service area, specialty showrooms with merchandising displays and layouts, a large garden centre, tool rental centre and storage area for customers’ ‘buy online, pickup in store’ orders. It will be located on Quarry Ridge Drive.

The opening will add approximately 150 new jobs on top of the 5,200 already supported in Alberta.

In tandem with this announcement, the Home Depot Canada Foundation revealed a new community partnership with Wood’s Homes, including a $10,000 grant to this local youth-serving agency and its Stepping Stones Youth Services program, which provides a short-term, secure haven for young people in Fort McMurray. The foundation says Wood’s Homes will become an Orange Door Project campaign partner for the Fort McMurray store’s future fundraising efforts.

Home Depot is the world’s largest home improvement specialty retailer. The company, which has operated in Canada for more than 30 years, currently has 182 stores nationwide.
