Mohawk Industries Ushers in Major Leadership Change

After 50 years in the flooring industry, including 25 at the helm of Mohawk Industries, Jeff Lorberbaum is retiring.

Lorberbaum’s flooring career began in 1976 at Aladdin Mills, founded nearly two decades earlier by his parents, Alan and Shirly. The company initially manufactured rugs and mats before growing into one of the industry’s major carpet producers.

In 1994, Aladdin merged with Mohawk, and a year later, Lorberbaum was named president of the combined organization.

In 2001, he became CEO of Mohawk, guiding the company’s entry into the hard surface flooring market and overseeing acquisitions including Daltile, Unilin and IVC.

Lorberbaum will retire Sept. 30, with Paul De Cock succeeding him.

De Cock brings more than two decades of industry, operational and commercial leadership experience to the CEO role. Since joining the company through its acquisition of Unilin in 2005, he has held increasingly senior leadership positions across geographies and product categories, including laminate, wood, luxury vinyl tile and carpet. De Cock was appointed president and COO in February 2025, as part of the company’s overall succession planning process.

Lorberbaum’s final official industry appearance will be at Mohawk’s upcoming Edge Summit, Dec. 1-4, in Dallas.
