FCITS Offering One-Time Complete Certification Course

Flooring Consultants and Inspection Training Services (FCITS) is holding a one-week education program that provides inspector training and certifications for carpet, hard surface and advanced resilient flooring types.

To take place Oct. 11-15, in Buffalo, N.Y., this complete certification course is a one-time offer. The three classes that comprise the comprehensive program are typically held separately at FCITS’s office in Dalton, Ga.

The location — a hotel near Buffalo Niagara International Airport disclosed at time of registration — was chosen for the convenience of Canadians.

Introductory Course for Residential and Main Street Carpet Inspection Covers
• Most common carpet issues (more than 100 samples)
• Manufacturing (all phases of design, construction, tufting, dyeing and finishing) and related issues
• Advanced discussion on features and benefits of all fibres used in carpet production
• Installation methods and related issues
• Industry standards (how to apply to each inspection)
• Job site conditions and maintenance procedures
• Performance issues (how to determine if carpet is suited for where it’s to be installed)
• Carpet cleaning methods (advantages and disadvantages of each)
• Inspection tools (identification and use)
• Repair and replacement
• Report writing (includes report template)
• Marketing
• Customers (manufacturing contacts provided)

Introductory Course for Residential and Main Street Hard Surface Inspection Covers
• Most common hardwood, sheet vinyl, luxury vinyl tile (LVT), luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and ceramic tile issues (more than 100 samples)
• Manufacturing (all phases of design, construction, milling and finishing) and related issues
• Advanced discussion on features and benefits of each hard surface category, as well as solid versus engineered hardwood, sheet versus plank vinyl and how bamboo fits into the equation
• Installation methods and related issues
• Proper acclimation and how it differs between manufacturers and product categories
• Industry standards (how to apply to inspection of each hard surface flooring)
• Job site requirements
• Moisture testing (types and explanation of numbers)
• Substrate preparation (concrete, wood and plywood) and potential issues
• Performance issues (how to determine if the product is suited for where it’s to be installed)
• Hard surface maintenance (proper methods for all product categories)
• Inspection tools (identification and use)
• Repair and replacement
• Report writing (includes report template)
• Marketing
• Customers (manufacturing contacts provided)

Advanced Course for Luxury Vinyl Tile and Plank Covers
• Manufacturing of sheet, vinyl composition tile and other specialty products and their tolerances
• Hear from leading installation and technical services/support specialists about what to look for on jobs
• See how improper installation and job site conditions can cause gaps, buckling, bubbles, ledging, peaking and more, and learn how to identify the cause as well as responsible party
• Patching and levelling compounds, subfloors and substrates
• Cleaning and maintenance
• Learn correct methods to diagnose failed installations (includes mock-ups), make a determination and write a report

This final class is limited to 25 attendees to ensure individualized attention, says FCITS.

A minimum of five years experience in the flooring industry is required for enrolment in the program.

The one-week course is being offered at a special discounted rate of $2,500 US, and includes lunch and refreshments each day. Regularly, the cost amounts to $3,500 US, when each course is taken separately.
