CFI Rolls Out Yet Another Training Program this Year

To meet the evolving needs of flooring installers, the International Certified Flooring Installers (CFI) has launched a commercial resilient training program.

“The commercial resilient team led by Dick Schmidt did an amazing job of developing this new curriculum,” says CFI executive director of education Dave Garden. “This training will fulfill a need for more qualified installers in the commercial segment of our industry.”

The new program is comprised of three modules — flat lay, flash cover and seam construction — tailored to cater to various skill levels and installer requirements. Modules can be taken individually to address specific needs or as part of the complete program, providing flexibility and tailored learning opportunities for industry professionals.

Flat lay is a four-day training course that focuses on imparting best practices for the installation of both homogeneous and heterogeneous commercial sheet vinyl flooring.

Participants in the second module will gain expertise in pattern scribing techniques and the installation of flash coving, a crucial skill in the resilient flooring sector. Training takes place over two days.

The third module ensures installers master proper seam construction. Cold and heat welding techniques are covered in the one-day training course.

CFI launched the new training program at its 30th anniversary convention in Orlando, Fla., Sept. 20-22. The event was held in conjunction with the Floor Covering Installation Contractors Association.

The initiative marks CFI’s second major commercial program introduction this year. Earlier in 2023, CFI launched its advanced commercial carpet training program.
