Big Changes at WFCA Propel Organization Forward
By Clare Tattersall
The World Floor Covering Association (WFCA) is going through a transitional period.
In recent weeks, the only association that represents all segments of the flooring industry has seen a number of comings and goings, occurring at a time when the WFCA has rolled out a new brand identity.
Sara Vineyard has been promoted to vice-president of finance from her director role. She will oversee the financial strategy and operations of the WFCA to ensure continued fiscal strength and help drive the association’s industry-wide impact.

Vineyard, a certified public accountant, joined the WFCA in 2015. Over the last decade, she has played an instrumental role in enhancing financial reporting, streamlining budgeting processes and supporting the organization’s overall growth initiatives. She contributed to the association’s financial oversight during a critical phase of organizational expansion.

Freida Staten has also been promoted to the newly established position of chief marketing and strategy officer. Formerly vice-president of marketing, communications and membership, Staten’s broader leadership role involves overseeing the direction and execution of all marketing and communications initiatives for the WFCA and its affiliated entities, including the Certified Flooring Installers (CFI), Flooring Consultants and Inspection Training Services (FCITS) and Floor Covering Business to Business (FCB2B).

Beyond driving external visibility, Staten will play a key role in aligning cross-functional strategies, working closely with leadership teams to ensure cohesive messaging, consistent brand experiences and unified progress across all WFCA initiatives.
Joining the WFCA’s executive committee are two flooring industry veterans, Larry Flick and Darren Harrison, both serving as vice-chair. The new appointments follow a leadership transition as Adam Nonn steps away to focus on other professional commitments.

Ralph Falavinha has also stepped down from his position as executive vice-president of CFI, citing the need to focus on the growing demands of his family’s business. Falavinha joined CFI just six months ago to provide transitional leadership after chief operating officer Steve Abernathy retired at the end of last year.
In late April, the WFCA unveiled an updated brand identity to visually unify the organization with three of its entities: the Flooring Contractors Association (FCICA), FCITS and FCB2B. WFCA’s modernized logo symbolizes leadership, unity and progress across the flooring industry; a revitalized FCITS logo emphasizes excellence in flooring inspection and training services; and a reimagined FCB2B logo reflects technology, connection and the future of digital integration.
FCICA, the resource for premier commercial flooring contractors, provides training and certification through its Certified Installation Manager (CIM) program. FCITS is a leading provider of flooring inspection education, certification and technical support. FCB2B is a digital initiative helping businesses streamline transactions through e-commerce solutions.

A month later, CFI rolled out a bold new logo and refreshed brand identity. Like the other divisions of WFCA, CFI’s new logo prominently displays the ‘Powered by WFCA’ endorsement. This design choice reinforces a unified identity and highlights the shared mission of the association’s affiliated organizations.
“This rebranding is a pivotal step toward aligning our efforts, reinforcing our leadership role in the industry, and ensuring our members and partners benefit from a unified vision of growth and innovation,” says WFCA CEO Scott Humphrey.
CFI is dedicated to raising installation standards, supporting career growth and delivering skilled craftsmanship for dealers and manufacturers across the flooring industry through professional flooring installation training and certification.
Also in May, WFCA announced the launch of the Synergy Convention and Expo, replacing Elevate: CFI-FCICA Annual Convention and Trade Show. The re-envisioned event represents the collective interests of CFI, FCICA, FCITS and FCB2B. It was designed to bring together flooring professionals from across multiple organizations and disciplines for a unified, purpose-driven experience.
WFCA is the floor covering industry’s largest advocacy organization, representing retailers, contractors and allied service providers across North America. As the official sponsor of The International Surface Event, commonly known as TISE, WFCA is committed to advancing the industry through education, training, business tools, workforce development and legislative advocacy.
